No, I haven’t gone mad, nor am I running a fever from the allergy attack turned summer cold I’ve been fighting. The long-prophesied Zombie Apocalypse has come, and Battle Creek was the epicenter of the attack.
Here a group of zombies swarm a car stopped at Michigan and McCamly.
Zombies lurching down the street in search of human flesh, and their favorite meal, BRAAAAAINS!
Friday night was not a safe night to be out on the streets of Battle Creek, with a zombie army on the loose.
The zombies pose for a group photo in front of the waterfall at Mill Race Park.
They hunger…for something besides cereal. A group of zombies coming down Carlyle Street.
Zombies also like fitness. These zombies are following the Start! Walking Path.
Zombies pose for another group shot.
Truth time…The Good Ol’ Fashioned Zombie photo shoot was organized by local photographer Dave Melges, who is seen below setting up his camera for the group shot.
I’ve known Dave for a while. He’s a downtowner, whose studio is the old tux shop on McCamly next to the river. He’s often to be seen around the linear park, taking pictures, or using his laptop.
He organized the whole event via facebook, and while the weather did chase of some of the zombies, it certainly added to the atmosphere, as you’ll see in the videos, as it was not only pouring, but thundering as well.
My favorite part was motorists pulling up and asking me, the obvious non-zombie, what was going on. I told them to roll up their windows, lock the doors ,and flee for their lives, as the prophesied Zombie Apocalypse had come. And then zombies swarmed their cars. Awesome cheap entertainment.
Some people really got into being zombies. Self-proclaimed zombie fanatic Jeff Blowers was literally foaming at the mouth so that he ended up with a big drool strand hanging off of his goatee. Thought I was going to hurl over that one. Zombies are gross.
Except for the security guard at the WK Kellogg Foundation. I didn’t talk to him, but he came charging out of the building and flipped out on some of the zombies and talked about calling the police.
Here are two videos showing the fun and games in the pouring rain. The first features window crushing and car swarming (including a taxi) and the invasion of the Cricket Club.
The second shows even more zombie action, including the confrontation with the security guard from the WKKF. Personally, I think they should have just swarmed him….
The Zombie Apocalypse was not an isolated incident. In three weeks, he’s organizing a bride-themed photo shoot. And for five days in September, the zombies and the brides will do battle in the streets of Battle Creek as he shoots a feature-length movie titled “Brides vs Zombies”. Early wagering shows the zombies as the odds-on favorites, but I think people are forgetting something. Bridezilla!
